in this study, we attempted to understand the influence of the radius of curvature on the stress at the end of a crack under various confinements. we investigate the model with monotonic loading by loading a counteracting force normal to the crack surface. the influence of the load and the crack length as the control factors were investigated. for this, we have used the fem to study the crack growth. the result indicated that as the crack grows, the stress at the end of the crack increases linearly. the stress field is influenced by the load and the radius of curvature of the crack tip. the results suggest that the radius of curvature of the crack tip has an impact on the stress at the end of the crack. with the influence of the radius of curvature of the crack tip, the stress at the crack tip is in good agreement with the results of the analytical formulae presented in earlier studies. the fem has been used as a tool for studying the influence of the radius of curvature of the crack tip.
the results obtained through the fea program shows that the cracks occur due to the stress concentrations on the hole and the displacement induced cracks of the bonding strength. on the other hand, it is observed from the results that there are differences between the value of the stress observed on the top surface of the plate as compared to the bottom surface as the value of the displacement is increased. finally, the results show that by increasing the value of the applied load, it is observed that the displacement of the bottom surface of the plate decreases, while the top surface increases, which is expected. finally, it is observed that all the displacements at the bottom surface are the same as that of the top surface. the stress concentrations are visible in the results, due to which the load is required on both the top and bottom surfaces to allow the plate to buckle.
