# When Photoshop still looks like 9B

Throughout this book, I describe how to do some Photoshop tricks on one image or layer. Don’t get disheartened if you decide to try something but find that you cannot reproduce the results. That’s because most of the time you need to do several tricks at once in a single image. To create an image with all the elements of a series of tricks, then delete the first layer and then create a new layer with the next trick applied is a tedious process. So be patient.

Instead, be meticulous with the layers. Use more layers than you need. And use temporary layers and groups to arrange the elements of the tricks so that you can edit and combine them quickly. In the following example, a single layer had ten separate squares. The first five would be used to create an illusion of three separate scenes. The next five would be used to combine the elements of the first five into one effect. The entire layer was then erased and replaced with the bottom five squares.

# Chapter 1:
Figuring Out Layers

A primary task of digital imagery is to create a series of layers that can be manipulated through editing. A layer, in Photoshop, is a collection of pixels that together make up an image. That is, it’s a collection of connected pixels. It doesn’t have to be a square of pixels. A group of pixels that you label as a layer can be just as good as one single pixel.

Photoshop layers are a great place to break images into pieces and then combine them into one image. It’s a technique that’s used in creating interesting effects. For example, you can take a picture of the Eiffel Tower and break it down into five different layers representing the different objects that make up the tower. Then, using a combination of tricks, you can manipulate the shape of the tower through some of those layers.

The following example shows how you would edit a green-gray landscape and then break it down into layers of objects to make a photo of a mountain lion:

You can set up an automatic backup feature to save current images, settings, and preferences. You can use the Organizer to group photos into folders. You can get the toolbars and menus from Photoshop Elements CS6, or it can also be synced to an earlier version of Photoshop Elements when you connect to your Photoshop Elements CS6 account.

This study explored the differences between older Korean and Chinese Americans in their social and psychological attitudes toward the elderly and the aged by means of a direct comparison of elderly Koreans, Chinese Americans, and middle-aged whites. Specifically, the Korean sample included 102 older men and women, all over the age of sixty, who participated in a study of an integrated health and social service program serving older Koreans in south central New Jersey. The Chinese Americans were derived from an ongoing longitudinal study of the social and psychological well-being of middle-aged and older Chinese American women in New Jersey. Data on both cultural samples indicated that the elderly have more positive attitudes toward the aged than do middle-aged Americans and that both these attitudes and the positive responses toward the aged decrease with age. According to a new report from TheWrap, sources say Disney is currently in talks with Sony Interactive Entertainment to keep the studio’s multimedia producer of games under its umbrella.The report goes on to say that Cygames will become a division of the company and provide the industry with a “joint venture with Disney” similar to what Marvel did with Marvel Studios. Disney’s acquisition of Marvel Studio for $71.3 billion in November 2017 brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the company’s own production company, along with creating the Marvel Netflix series and publishing comics. Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors during the company’s third quarter earnings call that the acquisition changed Disney’s position in streaming, going from a “low single digit player” in the market, to now “a top-two player in streaming services.”Disney+ is expected to be the studio’s most ambitious project to date, following Marvel’s recent successes in the cinematic space with “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” With a planned launch of the platform in November 2019, it’ll be interesting to see how Disney approaches Cygames’ successful work developing games for smartphones and consoles. Simply speaking, the Millennium Falcon is a spacecraft from the far future when the Empire was at its height and interstellar travel was commonplace. It’s only now that the Falcon has become a sought-after smuggler’s fleet, decades after its initial creation for interstellar exploration.

The Falcon is typically piloted by Han Solo, a Hutt-like character or a customizable pilotable figure based on Han Solo (the only ships that can pilot it are piloted by another character), while the crew consist of the flight crew, who usually resides in the cockpit, as well as the support staff, who ride on the passenger deck.

The Falcon has a high-powered hyperdrive, making it capable of interstellar travel. It is also a versatile ship due to its many features, such as shields, bacta crystals, deflector shields, forward and aft batteries, and even a Jedi mind trick.

The ship was commissioned by Grand Moff Tarkin, who was a general working for the Galactic Empire. Skywalker, then a lieutenant, piloted the ship on its maiden voyage on 15 ABY to the Outbound Flight route.

History

The Millennium Falcon was first constructed in 25 BBY by Rogriss of Rigel System to be used as a super-weapon in the war against the Hutts. With the knowledge of that project, and the intent to return to space after the Empire had been defeated, it was constructed as a space superfreighter, capable of working against a bounty hunter even with only a few crew members.

During the course of the Clone Wars, while it was under the control of the Rebel Alliance, the Falcon was captured by the Rebel Alliance and the Imperial forces, who then took it to the planet Ord Mantell, where the Y-wing took the place of the Falcon. After it became apparent that the Empire had become a threat to New Republic space and as an appeasement gesture to the New Republic, the Empire was disbanded in 16 BBY. The Imperial forces, following the Battle of Endor, looted the ship of its weapons and took it to the worlds of the New Republic: Nelliria, Ord Mantell, Outbound Flight and Gavrisom.

In 36 ABY, Han Solo met the Rebellion’s Princess Leia Organa for the first time on the flight of the Falcon. Solo eventually piloted the ship on his own when the Empire was formed again, fleeing from Alderaan and before setting out on his adventures, with
