While the answers above have already convinced me that the tool is OK, I’d like to share my findings on how to use it.
I would like to stress that this is just my experience with it and that it may be different if I tried it with another camera or editing software.
First, you’ll need to download the “SDK for Adobe Digital Negative Images (DNG SDK)” from the Adobe website. In my case, I have version 1.0.0.3020 installed on my computer.
To use it, you will have to set it up as a “system tool”. To do this, first go to Start -> Control Panel -> Program and Features -> Turn windows features on or off. Then follow the instructions to install the tool as a system tool. Once it is installed, you can find it in the “Start -> All Programs -> Adobe -> Digital Negative”.
Second, you’ll have to download the ImageVerifier software and set up the hardware/software. The process to do this is the same as the one explained by yascha.

The default compression mode for images in DNG format is JPEG and the default file format is TIFF. By using “RAW” as the file format, you can set it to be different.
You can also specify whether or not to use DNG as the file format when writing a DNG file, which you can then load into Photoshop or Lightroom.

Verification is limited to images that have been modified since the last run.
ImageVerifier does not compare image files side-by-side, it compares the contents of a set of images to the same set of known good images.
ImageVerifier does not look at the file size.
ImageVerifier does not compare the EXIF date and time information. It ignores this information.
ImageVerifier does not check the number of files in a folder.
ImageVerifier does not test the root folder itself.
ImageVerifier does not ignore files with corrupted dates or times.
ImageVerifier does not compare the image size.
Note: While ImageVerifier does not do certain things listed above, some of the functions it does perform can be performed by other programs. ImageVerifier is easy to use, however, so it’s a great utility to have.
Note: For all images other than non-DNG raws, ImageVerifier uses Adobe’s DNG SDK directly. JPEGs and TIFFs are verified using built-in libraries as well. PSDs are validated using a method designed specifically for ImageVerifier that follows Adobe documentation for the PSD format. Non-DNG raws (e.g., NEFs) are verified by running them through Adobe DNG Converter.

Images will be verified (and then marked as processed) after the number of errors is less than the limit you set. The number of errors is stored with the image so you can verify later if needed. The limit is set to 10,000 errors by default. You can change this in the preferences dialog. You can also set the database to be a SQLite database. If you do this you’ll need to install the sqlite3 package.
Note: If you decide to change the database, don’t forget to tell ImageVerifier about it when you launch the program.
