My test failed the first time. I think the reason for this is because of how column names are parsed. In this case, @c, as the column name, has a suffix “.dep”. This causes the error “Only numbers, decimal numbers, characters or ascii85 encoded string literals may be used here”.

Possible solutions to make it valid:

In this case, you can use below.

If that doesn’t work, then use a subquery in a union with the invalid one.

If you want to get a row, use TOP or order by:
SELECT MAX(c.dep)
