This study aimed to develop a culturally sensitive, competency-based medical education curriculum to enhance cultural competence in medical education. There is currently no Canadian-specific medical education curriculum to teach Indian and Chinese cultural competencies to medical students. The MIST-C curriculum was developed by combining the Medical Education Advancement Partnership’s curricula with the University of Ottawa’s Cultural Competence competency framework. MIST-C participants took four to six one-hour facilitated group sessions. A total of 127 pre- and post-course surveys were analysed using paired t-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Pre- and post-course survey results demonstrated improvement in self-reported competency in cultural competency of participants across all four domains of the Cultural Competence Competency Framework.
