There are 2 parts to this compression technique:
1. creating a sample-by-sample FFT transformation of the original audio
2. the bitstream compression which determines how to save the “chunks”
of output values from the FFT data.
The FFT’s output is in the form of a list of bins (a quadratic matrix).
The FFTs are applied and the resulting audio samples are saved in
a bit-streamed format.

The longer the chunk length, the more values we will compress into
a smaller space.

The new IMA audio compressor is an advanced implementation of an original proposal by KEN Kinoshita, myself and some other people.
The aim of this proposal was to create the best audio compression tool available at that time.
IMA ADPCM achieved this goal and I’m really proud of it.
IMA ADPCM achieves pretty good sound quality at 4-bits per sample (352kbps for 44100khz CD audio).
IMA ADPCM uses a variable bit allocation depending on the sample rate to try to maximize the compression ratio at lower bitrates without losing quality.
IMA ADPCM also uses a long-term prediction to reduce side effects of the quantization.
This compression tool is a command line application.
The java example is meant to be used for conversion only.

System Requirements For IMA ADPCM:

As a note, this port is NOT binary compatible with the console version of the game.
